The Construction Skills (CITB) Site Safety Plus range of courses are recognised as being at the top of their field by those within the construction industry. SMSTS forms part of this well respected range of courses.

The SMSTS training is a 5 day course aimed at site managers, agents and people who are responsible for planning, organising, monitoring, controlling or administering groups of staff and workforce. It is desirable for those wishing to acquire a more in depth legal, moral and social knowledge of their job and also teaches delegates how to oversee on-site health and safety in accordance with up to date regulations.

Approximately ten thousand candidates per year, receive training with the SMSTS (site management safety training scheme) health and safety course. Candidates attending SMSTS training include those currently employed as site managers who wish to improve their awareness and knowledge of health and safety, along with other professionals amongst the construction industry who aspire to the role of site manager. Any employer of construction workers is required under the Construction Design and Management Regulations 2007 to ensure that their staff are proficient in a variety of health and safety issues. The 5 day SMSTS Course is the highest level of training available to satisfy this requirement.

Training thoroughly examines a wide range of health and safety issues. This means that after training, delegates will be fully competent in their ability to:

* Implement all health, safety, welfare and environmental legislation which affects them during their work

* Apply new guidance and industry best practice

* State their duties and responsibilities with regards to health, safety, welfare and the environment

* Comply with up to date legal requirements whilst managing heath and safety on site within the role of manager/supervisor

* Develop an understanding of responsibilities and accountability for site health, safety and welfare

* Know that a safe site is efficient, economical and productive

Delegates are required to pass three core assessments a written examination at the end of the course in order to qualify for the SMSTS Construction Skills Site Safety Plus accreditation. Successful candidates will receive a certificate of qualification from Construction Skills. This certificate is valid for a period of five years.

Please take care not to confuse (SMSTS) Site Management Safety Training Scheme, with (SSSTS) the Site Supervisors Safety Training Scheme.
